6,000 Participants Celebrated its 10th Anniversary
Raised Fund for the Largest Care and Attention Home for the Elderly in Asia
Hong Kong (10 March 2019, Sunday) – Shanghai Commercial Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2019, organised by Pok Oi Hospital with Shanghai Commercial Bank as the title sponsor, concluded successfully today at Stonecutters Bridge, Tsing Yi. 6,000 participants cycled through the bridge to raise funds for POH Tuen Mun Lam Tei Nursing and Residential Care Home for the Elderly, the largest Care and Attention Home for the Elderly in Asia. The project is expected to complete in 2022 and will be operated by Pok Oi Hospital on a non-profit-making basis. The care and attention home will provide care places and nursing home places to 1,433 elderly, to relieve the pressure caused by a shortage of elderly home places.
Pok Oi Cycle for Millions, being Hong Kong’s largest cycling charity event, has marked its tenth anniversary this year. While the public could enjoy their ride on the highway, the organiser Pok Oi Hospital hopes to promote the sports and road safety while advocate healthy and low- carbon lifestyle as well as raise funds for Pok Oi Hospital. Since 2009, over 46,000 participants have already taken part in this meaningful charity event and a significant amount of HK$56,000,000 has been raised for Pok Oi Hospital over the years. This has aided in the provision of a range of community services aimed at the well-being of the society.
Mr. Lee Yuk Fat, Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital Board of Directors said, ‘I would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the sponsors and donors, with their support, not only has this become the largest cycling charity event in Hong Kong, it also raised substantial amount of funds to promote charitable and welfare services to help those in need throughout these 10 years.’
Collaborating with “Wind and Cloud”, the popular comic by Mr. Ma Wing Shing, the well-known comic artist, with the combination of local comic elements, Mr. Ma has designed a series of limited edition premium, including the special edition of “10th Anniversary Road Bike”, which is limited to a total of 10 road bikes worldwide to raise funds for Pok Oi Hospital.
To encourage the general public to participate, Pok Oi Hospital cooperates with Shanghai Commercial Bank, the title sponsor for 5 consecutive years, to launch an innovative mobile donation platform, making Pok Oi Hospital one of the first charitable organisations that utilises Faster Payment QR code through banking institute for donation. Through this platform, the donors can enjoy the conveniences of making a donation anytime through “Shacom Pay”, the mobile application.

Amongst the many participants, the youngest was 8 years old while the eldest was 81 years old. The event was open to two different categories – Corporate Elite and Individual. All participants started riding at Tsing Sha Highway, then crossed over Stonecutters Bridge and Nam Wan Tunnel, passing the turning point on Ngong Shung Road before returning, which is around a 13-kilometer-journey. Along the route they can enjoy the magnificent city skyline and beautiful scenery along Victoria Harbour. A cycling carnival and award presentation ceremony also took place today at the finishing point, featuring a variety of road safety and Hong Kong comic-themed game booths, as well as Pok Oi Singing Contest 2019 Finale. It was an enjoyable fun weekend for the participants across all ages.
