Family and Friends Cycled on Stonecutters Bridge to Raise Funds for the Largest Residential Care Home for the Elderly in Hong Kong

The “Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2024,” organised by Pok Oi Hospital and title sponsored by Shanghai Commercial Bank, concluded successfully at the Stonecutters Bridge on Sunday, March 17. The largest charity cycling event attracted a wide range of participants to raise funds for the construction and development of POH Tuen Mun Lam Tei Nursing and Residential Care Home for the Elderly, the largest residential care home for the elderly (RCHE) in Hong Kong.

To engage cycling enthusiasts and the general public, the event featured a collaboration with the beloved character Miffy. The event successfully raised over HK$8 million of donation funds, demonstrating the tremendous support received from individuals from all walks of life.

The Opening Ceremony kicks off the event and active lifestyle

The Closing Ceremony & Cycling Carnival: Promoting low-carbon lifestyle and culture of giving via gamified booths

As always, the event featured the Individual and Corporate/Team categories. The 13-kilometre riding route started at the Tsing Sha Highway, then crossed over the Stonecutters Bridge and through the Nam Wan Tunnel, onto the Ngong Shung Road and finally returned to the starting point, offering magnificent sight of city skyline and Victoria Harbour all along, and a fun-filling closing ceremony-cum-carnival at the finishing point, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Tsing Yi).

Speaking at the Closing Ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pok Oi Hospital, Dr Chan Shou-ming expressed his gratitude to the city-wide support to the event. “The Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions has welcomed its twelfth edition all thanks to the support and collaboration from various stakeholders of the society, especially from the Shanghai Commercial Bank for the title sponsorship for seven consecutive editions, so that we can continue to pass on the charitable spirit.”

In addition to the ceremony, the event included a vibrant Cycling Carnival. The carnival showcased eye-catching decorations featuring the beloved character Miffy and themed booths dedicated to cycling, road safety, and sports. The participants had the opportunity to enjoy musical performances by the winners of the “Pok Oi Voice” teenage singing contest and a demonstration session featuring the training of police dogs.

After the firing of the starting pistol, the participants start off at the Tsing Sha Highway for a scenic 13KM riding journey.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pok Oi Hospital, Dr Chan Shou-ming expresses his gratitude to the overwhelming support from various stakeholders of the society, from sponsors, support units to participants and donors.

The title sponsor became the winners of both the Most Fund Raised and Team Spirit awards, showcasing the culture of giving back to the community.

This year, the charity cycling event has raised over HK$8 million, fully demonstrating the citizens’ love for cycling and their enthusiasm in charity.
